DRUPAL 8/9 VS WORDPRESS

Although the easy setup of WordPress has made a big name for itself, the open-source CMS is still far from perfect. There are cases where open source users prefer Drupal as their CMS of choice because of the advantages it offers.

For those who are new to the CMS world, WordPress is often the natural choice as it is easy to get started with. For those who want to move up a level and need more customized functionality of their websites, Drupal meets these needs.

Drupal Vs. WordPress

Drupal and WordPress are benchmarks in the CMS (Content Management System) space. This is one of the most searched topics online among users who want to enter the Open Source space. And since the pros and cons vary according to the user's context, there is never a clear winner.

Let's first take a look at the advantages Drupal offers over WordPress.

Advantages of Drupal 8/9

  • High security: this is the main reason to migrate to Drupal. Several government websites, including the official White House website, have been built on Drupal.
  • Easy search engine optimization (SEO): Drupal is a good choice for companies that want to rank their websites through SEO. The platform offers numerous modules such as Yoast SEO and makes it easy to optimize site content.
  • Speed : A crucial element to keep the attention of your audience is speed. Drupal extends the maximum speed of responsiveness, allowing users to develop high-performance pages with a high-speed index.
  • Flexibility : more options mean more flexibility to up your website's game. Drupal's custom content types are flexible and make your site unique. As a user, you can employ fine details and integrate useful features like Shopify, Twitter, other social media channels and more to achieve better results.
  • Multilingual : Since Drupal 8, the multilingual feature has been integrated into the core itself. For organizations that want multilingual pages, Drupal offers more than 100 languages in its basic configuration. And as is commonly observed, multilingual sites perform much better than websites that have English as their primary language.
  • Taxonomy : Data is the top priority for all website owners. From deep nesting to categorization in a common data catalogue, Drupal can reliably store a large amount of data. These capabilities are not yet available in other open-source CMSs.

Advantages Of WordPress

According to W3Techs , WordPress powers 37 percent of all websites on the Internet. Clearly, it is one of the most widely used CMSs by businesses that want to get their websites up and running quickly. Let's take a look at its advantages:

  • Ease of use: if you are not a technical user, WordPress can give your business a good start. It can take you from no website to an attractive, easy to use and functional site in minutes.
  • Extensibility: with over 53,000 free plugins and over 5,000 free themes, you can transform your website at no additional cost. It's easy to extend your WordPress site without the need for custom development.
  • Development costs: WordPress tends to work very well for categories such as small and medium businesses, e-commerce, publishing, startups and non-profits. WordPress can address these needs with lower development costs.

While these advantages outweigh Drupal, there are some advantages that both platforms share equally. For example, both Drupal and WordPress offer e-commerce capabilities and are redesigned to be more platform independent. Similarly, you can decouple Drupal and WordPress. The Drupal site can act as a content API server on day one, while the REST API is now included in WordPress core for developers to experiment with and use in a decoupled fashion.

Personal Conclusions.

If you're on a budget and want a simple website in a short amount of time ... use Wordpress.

If you want a custom web platform, or a web with many languages or many integrations ... use Drupal.

So Drupal is more powerful, more scalable and beats Wordpress in most things, including price.

If you have a small business, WordPress could be the solution, but Drupal offers important advantages for large companies or projects that go out of the standards of "typical websites".
